Who is Camino for?

Camino is for anyone who wishes to break free from their porn use or excessive screen reliance.

What makes Camino different?

There are currently three main approaches to “digital recovery”: blockers, habit trackers, and real-life root cause formation groups. We are grateful that each of these exists, and believe that root cause formation in communion with others is the strongest approach.

But right now, this approach is not being done in an effective way to reach the people who need it the most. These real-life groups often feel inaccessible due to societal stigmas, having to publicly identify as an “addict,” and the time commitment involved with in-person attendance. Camino exists to lower these barriers and provide access to excellent root-cause formation programs while walking together in communion with others on the same path.

Can I bring my own accountability partner?

Yes.

If I don’t have my own partner, how will you match me with one?

We have a small questionnaire that aims to match you with someone who is easy for you to relate to and be vulnerable with. We do the matching for you; this is not another swiping app that tries to reduce the entire human person down to a few pixels.

Can I stay anonymous on Camino?

Yes. The only personal information we share with your partner is the first name you provide, which doesn’t need to be your real name.

Will I be interacting with AI?

No, your formation content, your partner’s accountability check-ins, and every piece of text on the app and the website comes from a human. You will not be entrusting your soul to AI.

I see a lot of faith imagery. Can I use this if I’m not religious?

Yes. Though our courses do include some explicitly Catholic language, we designed the courses to be accessible to as many people as possible, including non-Catholics.

Is this a content blocker?

No. While Camino believes blocking access to addictive content is a crucial part of the recovery process, we are choosing to focus on helping people understand their own desires, and believe this can only happen in conversation with another person and slowly, thoughtfully, prayerfully and with the proper structure and guidance.

Our lives changed when we stopped whiteknuckling and learned why we were acting in ways we did not want to. We felt like we had happened upon a secret guide for freedom which could change the world if it were widely available, and this is why we made Camino.

Statistics

These statistics moved us enough to devote our lives towards responding to them.

“It would seem that Our Lord finds our desires, not too strong, but too weak. We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased.”
C. S. Lewis, The Weight of Glory
“I still think that the greatest suffering is being lonely, feeling unloved, just having no one… That is the worst disease that any human being can ever experience.”
Mother Teresa
“Man cannot live without joy; therefore when he is deprived of true spiritual joys it is necessary that he become addicted to carnal pleasures.”
Saint Thomas Aquinas, Summa Theologiae II-II, q. 35
“Orwell feared that the truth would be concealed from us. Huxley feared the truth would be drowned in a sea of irrelevance.”
Neil Postman, Amusing Ourselves to Death
